Around a month ago, on Saturday 5th March, the Walsall Black Sisters Collective celebrated its 35th anniversary with a ball. It was a lovely black tie event that allowed me to get out of the house and make a live show for a physically present audience, which felt like a breath of fresh air!
There were drinks on arrival and a three course menu with silver service. Besides my performance, the night counted with a show by the talented young people of Aston Arts Academy, the brilliant comedian Angie Le Mar, who’s also a play writer and could tell us that Tyler Perry (US Film director, playwright, actor -‘Madea’, ‘The Oval’ etc) is interested in one of her plays. Amazing! And a foot tapping music mix by DJ Cecil.
Thank you so much to WBSC for booking me for their celebration, and also for the amazing work they do to for the borough of Walsall, meeting the health and social needs of the people there while ensuring that the services are appropriate and meet their identified needs.
By the way, also on the bill were two top class BBC Presenters and Journalists. Nicola Beckford (left in the picture below) is an award winning senior journalist and presenter of programmes like BBC Radio 4 ‘Woman’s Hour’ and ‘Midlands Today’. She gave a witty, engaging and informative keynote speech. I loved it because it encapsulated details about her family life, her journey from school teacher to journalist; meeting the famous like Trevor MacDonald, Moira Stewart, the Strictly Come Dancing Stars and seeing Beyoncé’s fledgling performance at BBC House (when Beyoncé had just left Destiny’s child and was making a name for herself as a solo artiste – I would love to have been there! 🙂 )
Nikki Tapper is centre of the photograph and she is the presenter of BBC Radio WM ‘Sunday Night with Nikki’. I’ve performed at many black tie events where Nikki is Host. She delivers as always an energetic, side splitting, engaging performance as Host which energises the audience and keeps the evening moving fantastically! I’m super proud to say I have been interviewed by both of these women on their BBC shows and Nikki’s ‘In The Space’ event. Great people! Always a pleasure. A highlight of my year.
You can learn more about WBSC in their website. Also, if you have an event coming and love the idea of having me on it, enquiries are coming in bulk right now, so run to my booking form before my calendar gets full!
