My first time at the opera

At the end of March, I went to a type of theatrical and musical performance I had never experienced in person before: the opera.

Specifically, I went to see Carmen, composed by Georges Bizet, as produced by Ellen Kent as part of her Farewell Opera Tour. It was a very interesting experience. Both the singing cast and the orchestra were great. In particular, the actress of Carmen gave her all to deliver a brilliant performance.

The story is divided in four acts, full of comedic and dramatic elements. It is in French, but there are subtitles projected on top of the stage for everybody to be able to follow the plot. However, sometimes the show was so entrancing that I stopped reading them! The music and acting are expressive enough that you don’t have to understand every word.

The show was almost sold out. I am glad that there is so much support for this beautiful art form. I am late to the party, for sure, but that only means that there is a whole banquet of treats for me to discover and enjoy.
