Both parts of the Time For My Music Evening Showcase, the sold out concert that took place at the MAC Theatre of Birmingham on October 29th, are going to be available on my YouTube channel very soon. As part of this release, I want to share some of the words that the women had to say about their work with Time For My Music during the event.
Let’s start with Michelle, whose photo, taken by the talented team of GL360 Productions, you can see above. A saxophonist who regularly enchants audiences with the Notebenders at Birmingham Symphony Hall and other prestigious venues, Michelle aspires to become a sought-after studio session saxophonist.
This is what she told the audience about Time For My Music:
I’ve been in Time For My Music for some time now, and I never ever thought that I’d actually perform in a setting like this.
What we do is: we meet up in person and online, and we share ideas. We talk about what things have gone wrong. We talk about our ambitions, and about songs we want to learn. And what we found is, with Millicent’s support, we’ve been able to achieve things that we’ve never thought were possible. I mean, some of our women players, they’re playing in venues that you just wouldn’t think would open their doors to people like us.
Time For My Music, for me, has allowed me to take a hobby a little bit further. Playing a saxophone is a hobby, but after joining this, I actually feel I could do it separately, as in addition—and I now have a yearning to be paid.
[…] The time that Millicent gives us, people wouldn’t normally do that. She shares all the secrets that you probably don’t know. It has changed my life. Millicent, thank you.
If you play a musical instrument as a hobby, and you think: “Do you know what? I would really yearn to play a musical instrument in a live setting with a live audience…” Then, come and join us. We’re a friendly bunch. Come and join us, and experience it, and see what you can achieve. The only person stopping you is obviously yourself, so come along. Come and join us. Even if you’re a singing in the shower person, you might find that you’ve actually got a talent and a voice that other people want to hear. If you’re a drummer, bass player, saxophonist trumpeter, come and join!

You can watch Michelle’s first individual performance at the timestamp 34:23. My recommendation, however, is to watch the whole video. That way, you get the full experience!
