Last month, I performed at the SHAPE spring charity fundraising ball. Besides my music, the night featured the talents of Annette B and Janine Dyer, plus lots more of entertainment in the hands of the DJ, the raffles, and the splendid three-course meal.
SHAPE is a charity for women who have fled situations of domestic violence and abuse. Under the motto “supporting and helping young women achieve potential through education,” they’ve given refuge to 1182 women since their opening more than a decade ago. Thanks to their tireless work, many of these women have been able to complete professional studies and learn life skills. This has contributed to their healing process, their financial stability, and their independence.
I remember the very first days of the SHAPE team, back when they found the property that would become their women’s refuge. It’s an old building, but with the help of volunteers and donations, they made it useful and habitable. It was great to hear about what’s new at the fundraising gala. For example, SHAPE recently replaced more than thirty old-style windows with modern ones, which are more durable and have better isolation. A lot of furniture has also been changed, and they’re now working towards updating their computer room.
It was great to play for the opening and after dinner. Everything went pretty well, and the fundraising gave SHAPE a good boost toward reaching their goals. There’s always more work to be done, though. If you wish to support them financially, you can do so through Stewardship by single or regular donation, or directly into their account:
