Have your say in the BBC Charter renewal

The BBC Charter is a document granted by the King that provides the legal right for the BBC to exist and operate. It dictates how the BBC acts and what its objectives are. As you may already suspect, the BBC is one of the biggest employers of musicians in the UK. This means that it is vital for everybody in the British music industry to help shape the charter’s renewal by providing perspective and information. The same can be said for professionals in any other field related to the arts, culture, and communication.

The open public consultation will be open until 10 March 2026. You can fill and submit the form online through this website. If the page doesn’t work, you can also send your responses via e-mail or by post. Now, if you are not sure of how to reply or what to say, the Musicians Union has prepared templates that we can use. You can have a look on their website.

That way, we will contribute to ensuring that the BBC is future-proof, and that the opportunities, support and platform it offers to musicians and other creatives stays alive.
