Last night was off the charts! It started around 3.30pm when I arrived to the Holte Suite for a sound check.
Guests arrived from 7pm for a wonderful Gala and Local Heroes Awards. We had facts from the Speakers, good food and laughter all expertly steered by toastmaster Urban Thompson. you would think that people with titles are all grey and boring but Professor Emeritus Palmer OBE gave such a side-splitting greeting and the keynote speaker Mr Vivian Crawford OD, JP and Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Jamaica mixed facts and jokes like crazy! One of the jokes – ‘The man is the head of the home, the wife is the neck, you need a neck to move your head!’ Lol!
I felt right at home opening the evening with my new tenor 🙂 Later in the evening I played numbers with my trusty Alto!
Her excellency Mrs Aloun Ndombet Assamba High Commissioner of Jamaica’s wonderful introduction of the Keynote speaker and getting ‘close and personal’ to Wil Johnson (Emmerdale’s Dom Andrews) in the photo shoot, brought down the house! She’s just so funny! Wil certainly raised funds with his witty approach to auctioneering and raffles.
As you know black tie events have mood lighting so the pictures are not as sharp as I’d like but here are the entertainers of the night:
Top class entertainment from Brooklynne Richards, power house vocals of ITV Xfactor Boot camp contestant; Yaz Alexander reggae and jazz artist and former backing vocalist for Pato Banton and Steel Pulse; Spicey Fingers Birmingham poet and drummer; Yours truly rocking the Saxes. Melika Queely, Violinist.
It was good catching up with Wil, all the best on Emmerdale!
What a night!
