That’s A Big Saxophone!

Did you know that saxophones come in a variety of sizes? Originally, their creator Adolphe Sax wanted to make an orchestra only with them, so in order to achieve a wide pitch range, he had to design at least fourteen different sized instruments! Nowadays, though, there are only five sizes that are commonly used: soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass.

You can tell if a saxophone has a high or low pitch by looking at its size: the bigger it is, the lower it sounds. Check this Instagram reel for a direct comparison.

That’s quite funny, isn’t it? But, what can you do if you don’t own such a large sax and you want to get rich low sounds? Well, if you understand the principles that change the pitch of the sax, you’ll surely find a way:

As for me, my favourites are the tenor and alto sax. And no, I’ll not insert a traffic cone in either of those, haha!
