January 1998 was a dark month for Portland, Jamaica. A very bad flooding and landslide claimed many people’s homes and lives. In order to provide aid after the disaster, the Erma’s Jamaica Hospital Appeal Fund UK was established the following April. Ever since, this charity has sought to improve under-resourced health care and education programmes for disabled and disadvantaged children and adults around the world. They provide material aid, support and training where necessary, aiming to reach unattended rural areas.
For a long while now, I’ve performed at the charity’s yearly Fundraising Gala Ball. It normally takes place during autumn at the H Suite in Birmingham. This year, that marked their 25th anniversary, was no exception. It was lovely to meet again with people who I’ve come to know well, and once again put my music at the service of a good cause.
British Airways, one of the traditional sponsors of the gala, decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary by stepping up with the resources and support for the event. It was nice to meet with the company in this scenario too. As you know, I’ve performed for British Airway’s celebration of Black History Month a few times now. I’m featured in their BHM highlights video this year and on several of their communication channels.
I look forward to keep partnering with organisations like these in 2024. Music is an incredible way to help spread awareness about important causes. If you have an initiative that could benefit from my music, tell me about it on my booking form. I’m always happy to contribute with my art.
You can donate or volunteer to support the Erma’s Jamaica Hospital Appeal Fund UK. It’d be great to have you attend the gala next year too (I’ll give you details in due time!). Also, you can learn about British Airways’ responsible business policy on their website.
