Catch Up With ‘Success Beyond The Score’ On Affinity Xtra

I know that this is the era of streaming. In fact, I take full advantage of our ability to access all the art and information we want, whenever and wherever we want. However, I find a lot of value in the radio format. No matter how sophisticated they get, algorithms can only do so much. Relying on them will end up creating an echo chamber around you. The radio, though? There are human sensibilities behind every piece that’s played. You can discover new things, hear other perspectives, and find your way to places you didn’t even know about.

The radio has also been fundamental for my music career. Getting a song at the top of the charts is a wonderful and fulfilling experience. The radio has given me space to discuss topics that interest me, offer interviews, and also get my non-music creations out there. That’s the case with Affinity Xtra radio and my podcast, Success Beyond The Score.

The podcast has undergone many transformations. The first season was a series of 30 pre-recorded, short format episodes. It’s only available as audio, and focuses on practical advise for musicians who are just starting their career. The second season was all about interviews with successful musicians established in the industry. They were conducted during lockdown and published as audio and video. The third season consists on eleven YouTube live streams I did during summer 2022. This allowed me to interact with the audience during the episodes and answer questions right on the spot. The topics are a bit more advanced than the ones I included on season 1. Still, they are suitable for beginners as well as musicians who have been around for a while, and are now planning to take their next big step.

Affinity Xtra has been present all along, helping spread the word by including episodes of the podcast on their programme. Right now, they’re playing season 3 every Friday at noon, UK time. They play a more polished, edited version of what’s available on YouTube, so it’s worth to give them a listen, even if you have already watched the videos. Tune in for tomorrow’s episode and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Don’t forget to set an alarm!
