In 2023, I played at the Barbados’ 57th Independence Dinner Ball organised by the 2nd Generation Barbadians and Friends Birmingham. My daughter Sun did an impromptu dance during the show, and the public liked it so much that we both got invited to perform at the event this year.
Sun brought her friend Bleue along, and we put several choreographies together. It was a brilliant experience that transported me to the last few Not Just Jazz shows. The performance was a great success, and the good news is that we recorded it in its entirety. On Christmas Day at 6:00pm UK, grab some food, your family and friends, and sit to enjoy 30 minutes of music and dance as if you were part of the audience, up to the occasional disruption by passersby, haha!
YouTube premieres have an exclusive, limited-time live chat where you can talk with other viewer and share your impressions. I hope I can read some of you there. As always, I appreciate any and all engagement with my videos 😉
While you wait for the big show, here are some clips with our process to put the choreographies together. Each song has a unique style that requires a different approach for the dance. First, here’s one I wrote myself, titled ‘It’s All Good’, groovy and relaxed without being slow.
By contrast, for something quite energetic and strong, we prepared ‘Beat It’ by the legendary Michael Jackson.
And finally, the all-time classic ‘Goodness of God’ asked for a more soulful, contemporary approach.
What do you think? I hope you’re excited about watching the whole thing. If you haven’t done so already, subscribe to my YouTube channel and activate notifications, so you don’t miss any of my videos.
