Recently, I notice that I did not have any Christmas music on my YouTube channel for you, so this week I recorded Nat King Cole’s ‘The Christmas Song’, also Boney M ‘Mary’s Boy Child. What a great opportunity to put both my video and audio production skills to the test on ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and ‘The Christmas Song’.
While the Nat King Cole number was straight forward to accomplish, the Boney M number was more challenging, because I decided to record not only the lead sax (melody), but also three part harmony in the chorus. It felt like a good idea at the time, but I must admit I wasn’t sure if I would pass the test of getting it ready by Christmas Day for you.
How was it? I have to admit by Monday I felt as though I had bit off more than I could chew, as I had Christmas prep and family things to do, while wrapping up work tasks before shutting down on Christmas Eve. This meant a couple late nights. I became a little square eyed moving between audio and video software. Each has different menus, mouse commands, what you can and cannot do with sound or video. Also thinking like a music producer when working in my audio programme with consideration for video, and then thinking like a video producer with consideration for audio, when using my video programme took a lot of brain power. I didn’t think I would get this ready for you in time, and I seriously thought of throwing in the towel a couple of times, but I got there last night, just in time.
So here, below, is the finished version of ‘Mary’s Boy Child‘. It premieres of YouTube at 5pm on Christmas Day. You can tap the link to be taken to YiuTube before then. At YouTube you can tap the ‘Notify Me’ button to receive a reminder to watch at 5pm. Maybe get your friends and family to watch too? The more the merrier.
Did I enjoy putting my production skills to the test? Yes I did. In fact I hope to find time to do more in 2026.
In the meantime, if you missed my version of the Nat King Cole number, I have linked it below for you. By the way, it would be helpful for my growth on YouTube and here, if you could leave a like on the video, share it and subscribe if you haven’t already done so.
Enjoy!
