As I told you on this post, I got the honour to perform at the service to commemorate the 64th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence, organised by the Association of Jamaican Nationals Birmingham (UK). The theme of the day was ‘Keep Hope Alive.’ For me, hope means belief in a better future or a great solution to a problem you or I may have. But sometimes, hope can also mean that we are hope for others, because we bring something into their life.
A song from my repertoire that fits very well is ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ released by Simon & Garfunkel in 1970. Just check the opening lyrics:
When you’re weary
Paul Simon
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I’m on your side
Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled waters
I will lay me down.
It is one of my favourite songs to play, and it is also very well received by the audience. This time, I got wonderful comments, including: “I’ve heard you play many times over the years, and today I can say you reached a new level,” and, “You brought tears to my eyes, I couldn’t stop crying.” It makes me happy to elicit such strong emotions.
I received some recordings from fan cams, too, which I put together in a video that I just posted on my YouTube channel. Thanks to Angie, Joe, Michael and Pauline for allowing me to use your clips. Also, thanks to Doctor Dame Beverly Lindsay, DBE, OD, DL for inviting me to perform.
You can watch it now:
As always, likes, shares and comments are deeply appreciated.

Walking away sometimes is the strongest decision you can make. Stop fighting for spaces that drain you, people who make you question your worth, and approval that should never have to be begged for. Protecting your peace is not selfish, it is finally realizing that your heart, energy, and happiness deserve protection too.
