To improve my songwriting skills, I enrolled in a course led by Keppie Coutts and Benny Romalis. They are fantastic teachers! We went beyond the basics of how to write lyrics and delved into how to make them memorable and impactful. The course allowed me to bring out a lot of ideas that were spinning in my mind for a while. I hope I can share some of the results with you soon.
After more than 300 years of colonial rule, Jamaica gained its independence on 6 August 1962. To commemorate this important date, tomorrow, Sunday 9 August, the Association of Jamaican Nationals of Birmingham UK will offer a service of praise and thanksgiving at the New Testament Church of God Handsworth. I will have the honour of providing the music for the occasion, and I would love it if many of you could attend.
Some of you may remember that I took part of a Music Production For Women course. You can read about it in previous posts from my blog. Now that I am an alumna, I want to share some more of my impressions, and thank the people behind this wonderful experience.
A new, lovely Sunday afternoon, a new video for all of you. Back at Ditton Manor, the Millicent Stephenson Trio performed the legendary song ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, written by Bart Howard in 1954. Our interpretation is based on Frank Sinatra’s recording of it, which released around a decade later.
One of my dreams in music has always been to produce my own tracks. Whilst I am very thankful to the people who has supported me in that regard, for projects like my album Reflective Notes or my single Take Me To The King, I always wanted to do it myself. Last year, I finally took the critical step. For the last 15 months, I have been on a music production course for women ran by Xylo Aria. It has been brilliant!
Music has been a vehicle to express love for thousands of years. As a result, we have an extraordinary musical vocabulary to convey, or attempt to convey, what newly-weds feel. A voice who added many words to this metaphorical dictionary was Whitney Houston, including ‘Run To You’, the fourth single of the now legendary ‘The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album’ (1992).
I met Jasmin Carter at a 50th birthday party for a lady called Vanessa. I was there to perform, and she, to take photos. She got some nice shots of me. What do you think?
I notice that I did not have any Christmas music on my YouTube channel, so this week I recorded Nat King Cole’s ‘The Christmas Song’, also ‘Mary’s Boy Child’, made famous by Boney M. What a great opportunity to put both my video and audio production skills to the test.
